The Heichemer Residence was a major remodel to an existing single-family residence in the Arch Beach Heights neighborhood of Laguna Beach, California.  The project scope included a complete interior and exterior remodel of the three-story 1973 home, as well as various site improvements throughout the property.  The interior and exterior remodel work was done to transform its style from boxy 70’s Spanish to soft contemporary.  Exterior materials and transitions were designed to emphasize the horizontality of the house levels.  Fenestrations were added and enlarged to maximize ocean views and cross ventilation.  This home is located on a corner lot of a steep street, so planters, walks, and fences were added in a stepped formation to relate to the house horizontality, as well as help break-up and add interest to previously long sections of sloped side yard.
