The Cavana Residence was a major remodel and addition to an existing single-family residence in the North Laguna neighborhood of Laguna Beach, California.  The project scope included a complete interior and exterior remodel of the two-story 1931 beach cottage, a new two story addition to the front of the house, and various site improvements throughout the property.  The interior remodel work was done to modernize the beach cottage in both appearance and the way in which the spaces are lived in, with the addition following suit.  The existing cottage exterior was maintained and refurbished as needed.  The architectural connection between the existing residence and new addition was limited to a narrow single-story element in order to minimize impact to the original cottage exterior.  The exterior open space remaining between the existing structure and the front addition was utilized to create a private entertaining space with new large-scale folding glass door systems on two sides of the space for seamless indoor-outdoor connection
